Minister Outlines Measures for Good Mental Health in Workplaces

The Minister of Health has marked World Mental Health Day (Oct. 10), underlining practical measures to address mental health in the workplace for higher productivity.

Addressing over 500 participants in an official event in Phnom Penh on Oct. 14, the minister, H.E. Chheang Ra, called on all relevant ministries, other government institutions, development partners, and other players to signify the importance of staff’s mental health that intertwines physical condition and effective job fulfillment.

To do so, he encouraged stress management for both employees and employers, the application of a mental health screening tool to self-assess mental health status, and the introduction of stress management guidelines at the workplace.

The minister added that it is also essential to enable access to mental health counselling services for the management and staff.

The Ministry of Health organised the event to mark World Mental Health Day in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, the World H
ealth Organisation, and UNICEF.

Some 549 senior representatives from the mentioned agencies and other relevant bodies, as well as psychiatrists, mental health professionals, university students, and other national and international participants, gathered at the event.
