NEC Receives 35 Election-related Complaints

The National Election Committee (NEC) has received a total of 35 election-related complaints nationwide as of July 25, 2023, H.E. Hang Puthea, a Member and Spokesperson for NEC told AKP this afternoon.

Of the total complaints, 30 have been resolved at Commune//Sangkat Election Commissions and at Provincial Election Commissions, and the rest five have been referred to the NEC, he added.

On July 27, 2023, he pointed out, NEC will hold a hearing for the remaining complaints. If the plaintiffs do not agree with the NEC’s decision, they can appeal to the Constitutional Council within 72 hours after the NEC’s decision, and the Constitutional Council needs 10 days to resolve the complaint and its decision shall be final.

According to the preliminary results obtained from the polling stations across the country, the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) is taking the lead, said the spokesperson, adding that the temporary results will be announced on Aug. 5, 2023, and without any complaints related to the results, NEC will proclaim the official results between Aug. 9 and Sept. 5, 2023.

The 7th National Election took place on July 23 in 23,789 polling stations throughout the country under the witness of nearly 100,000 national and international visitors who concluded that this election was conducted smoothly and orderly in a free, fair and transparent manner.
