KUALA LUMPUR, Oh Yeah Banana Leaf, known for its seafood, Asian fusion and biryani dishes, has opened its fourth branch at Batu 22, Jalan Rawang-Kundang, Selangor.

R. Denes Kumar, one of its owners, highlighted the restaurant’s unique appeal, especially its signature dish, bamboo biryani, and the popular kari kepala ikan (fish head curry).

“We can cater to about 150 people at once, with both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned seating areas. Additionally, we plan to offer catering services for home functions and corporate events,” he told Bernama during the opening of the restaurant by MIC vice-president Datuk T. Mohan on Sunday (May 19).

Denes, a Malaysian celebrity known for acting in and producing the local Tamil comedy-drama series “Pasanga”, said the restaurant is in the process of obtaining halal certification.

He said as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility project, they have helped underprivileged individuals in Rawang by providing them with small businesses to prepare breakfast item

Denes said the uniqueness of Oh Yeah Banana Leaf lies in using banana leaves as serving plates, which imparts a natural aroma and distinctive taste to the dishes.

“Among our offerings, bamboo biryani is particularly rare as it requires a special preparation process. Our most requested dishes include mutton biryani, chicken, fish, prawn and crab biryani, and we also have vegetable biryani for vegetarians,” said Denes, who opened the restaurant together with his partners, Vincent Dass and Babu Ramachandran.

He also said the restaurant serves seafood dishes like shell-out using bamboo, along with lamb shank, tandoori naan and pani puri.

“Besides our banana leaf and bamboo biryani specialties, we offer items like idli, dosai, poori, uppuma, ponggal and various fried dishes. Our traditional curries – mutton, chicken, fish and vegetable – paired with soft and aromatic roti canai, idli, or naan are also very popular,” he added.

Oh Yeah Banana Leaf currently operates branches in Bukit Bintang, Batu Caves and
Brickfields.
