Perhilitan Captures Bull Elephant In Mersing

The Johor Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) successfully captured a bull elephant in Kampung Triang Besar on Monday.

State Perhilitan director Aminuddin Jamin said the elephant was captured following a week-long operation involving 21 personnel, who had been monitoring the village for the signs of the animal after receiving complaints from villagers.

‘We estimate there are between three to five elephants, believed to be part of a lost group from the Jemaluang elephants,’ he said when contacted by Bernama recently.

‘However, we are continuing regular patrols to guide the elephants back to their original habitat.

Aminuddin also noted that on Wednesday, his department undertook an operation to transfer two elephants from the National Elephant Conservation Centre Kuala Gandah in Pahang to a more suitable environment.

He urged the public to avoid any provocative actions if they encounter the elephants and to immediately report sightings to Perhilitan.

‘Complaints and wildlife-related in
formation can be directed to Perhilitan through the hotline 1-800-88-5151 or via e-complaints on our website, www.wildlife.gov.my,’ he added.
