PHILIPPINE FIRST LADY VISITS ROYAL SELANGOR VISITOR CENTRE

Philippine First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos today visited the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre.

Araneta-Marcos, who was in the company of the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, arrived at the centre at about 3.30 pm.

After a briefing on the history of Royal Selangor’s pewter manufacturing in Malaysia, the visitors had a closer look at the beauty and workmanship of various pewter and silver designs and witnessed how the detailed pieces are crafted.

Royal Selangor was also decorated today with booths displaying exquisite woven fabric pieces produced by inmates of the Penor Prison in Pahang, in addition to the Che Minah Sayang sales booth to promote Malaysia’s weaving products.

Also on display at Royal Selangor were pieces of batik made personally by Tunku Azizah which was from Her Majesty’s exhibition themed A Queen’s Touch: An Exploration and Experimentation of Batik Inderapura.

With a staff strength of about 500, Royal Selangor is today a go-to place for foreign tourists to buy unique gifts as souvenirs or to experience pewter, both as a beautiful piece to be admired and as a craft.

Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and his wife arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday evening for a three-day state visit.
