Sarawak Govt Will Review Salary Adjustment Criteria – Abang Johari

KUCHING, The Sarawak government will review the salary adjustment criteria used by the Federal Government for implementing the revised Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA).

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state government plans to adopt a similar approach in adjusting the salaries of its civil servants, with the implementation dependent on its financial capability.

‘We are currently reviewing our civil service salaries and will calculate based on the announcement by the Prime Minister. At the very least, it will be on par, if not slightly better,’ he told reporters after witnessing the Taekwondo events at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024 in Kuching today.

He added that, since the state’s public service scheme operates on a Contribution-Based Position (JBC) model and does not include a pension scheme, the state government is also considering additional benefits and promotion opportunities for its staff.

He also expressed hope that private sector employers in Sarawak would follo
w suit by offering better salaries and benefits to their employees, and by creating opportunities for civil servants seeking to transition into the private sector to enhance their earnings.

Earlier today at the 19th edition of Majlis Amanat Perdana Perkhidmatan Awam (MPPA XIX) 2024 programme, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a 15 percent salary adjustment for civil servants in the Implementing, Management, and Professional groups, and seven percent for those in the Top Management group.
