Siem Reap – Cambodia to Host Global Summit on Mine Clearance

Siem Reap – Cambodia is set to host the Siem Reap Angkor Summit on “a Mine-Free World” in November 2024, with attendance anticipated from nearly 200 countries. The announcement was made by H.E. Ly Thuch, First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), during a press conference in Phnom Penh on Nov. 16. Cambodia’s leadership in mine clearance efforts has been recognized internationally, as evidenced by its election as the president of the Ottawa Treaty. The treaty, which focuses on the prohibition of anti-personnel mines, has garnered over 164 member states.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the summit will address the broader issue of explosive remnants of war (ERW) and their impact on public safety, highlighting Cambodia’s significant progress in mine clearance and contribution to peace and development.
