Takeo Province to Become Mine-Free before Year-End

Takeo will become another mine-free province, after some 3.62 square kilometres of contaminated land will be cleared before the end of this year, under the Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s Project for Mine Action (STP-MA) themed “Providing Safe Ground, Creating smiles”.

The information was shared in a dissemination meeting on Cambodia mine action sector and STP-MA, held in Takeo provincial city yesterday afternoon under the chairmanship of H.E. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) and H.E. Ouch Phea, Governor of Takeo province.

H.E. Senior Minister took the opportunity to profoundly thank all charitable people for their contribution to resolving landmine issue in Cambodia through the STP-MA.

Takeo is among the five provinces whose contaminated land of 31 square kilometres in total will be cleared by CMAC deminers. The other four provinces are Kampong Cham, Kampong Chhnang, Kampot, and Svay Rieng.

Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has recently launched a national movement dubbed STP-MA to mobilise resources from donors across Cambodia and beyond to achieve mine-free Cambodia in 2025.
