Up to 1.57 Million People Tour Cambodia on 2nd Day of Khmer New Year Celebration

Cambodia registered more than 1.57 million national and international tourists on April 15, the second day of the three-day Khmer New Year holiday, said the Ministry of Tourism in a new report released this morning.

The figure shows an increase of 83 percent from some 863,000 tourists on the first day of the Khmer New Year, it added.

Of the total visitors, it pointed out, 1,569,482 were local tourists, and 9,769 others were internal foreign tourists.

Among the 25 provinces and capital city, Battambang province was the most visited destination for the second day (Kampong Chhnang province for the first day), followed by Prey Veng and Banteay Meanchey provinces.

Kampong Cham, Pursat, Kampot, Siem Reap, Kampong Speu were also among the eight provinces attracting the most visitors.

The Ministry of Tourism expressed its optimism over the high tourist flow today, the last day of the New Year holiday, as well as tomorrow (Sunday).

Municipal and provincial administrations have organised Sankranta events and other entertainment programmes to attract visitors to their respective capital and provinces.
