VEGETABLE PRICES CHEAPER IN MELAKA BY UP TO 10 PER CENT – KPDNHEP

The prices of vegetables in Melaka has dropped by up to 10 per cent from the ceiling price in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri, said state Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) director Norena Jaafar.

She said that these vegetables include cabbage, long beans, tomatoe, cucumber and sawi (choy sum), which are sold cheaper in Melaka compared to other states, she said.

“The drop in vegetable prices has been observed since the beginning of April, and among factors are sufficient supply of vegetables in Melaka and warmer climate,” she told reporters at the launch of the state-level Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP), here today.

Norena said the supply of vegetables is sourced from local vegetable farmers and also from Cameron Highlands.

In a separate matter, she said a total of 35 enforcement officers will monitor the prices of goods at supermarkets, markets, farmers mart and retail outlets to comply with the SHMMP from April 15 to 30.

She also urged the public to lodge a report to the ministry if they find a sudden increase in the prices of goods during the period.
