Cambodia’s E-Commerce Sector on the Rise

The Ministry of Commerce has projected that the Cambodia’s e-commerce market value would keep growing, at a value of US$1 billion in 2022 and US$1.7 billion by 2025.

The total market value of e-commerce in Cambodia in 2021 was US$970 million, a 19 percent increase compared to a year earlier, according to the ministry’s commercial bulletin, issued on June 30.

The e-commerce revenue was mainly from fashion US$263 million, electronics US$254 million, and beauty, health and household care US$230 million.

Some 54.9 percent of the e-commerce transactions were conducted via internet on a desktop PC, while the rest on tablet or smartphones, read the report.

In order to control the growth of e-commerce and promote the development of the sector to gain more confidence from national and international investors, including consumers, the Royal Government of Cambodia has established a law on e-commerce which was put into force in 2020.

The E-Commerce Law serves as an important legal basis for the development of e-commerce, especially to protect the interests and establish high trust relationships with e-consumers, as well as to attract local and foreign investors to Cambodia.

Additionally, in order to strengthen the control of online business, the Ministry of Commerce has required online business owners to register with the ministry.

18th National Fisheries Day Celebrated in Banteay Meanchey Province

Cambodia this morning marked the 18th National Fisheries Day at Trapaing Thmar reservoir located in Trapaing Thmar village, Poy Char commune, Phnom Srok district, Banteay Meanchey province.

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen presided over the annual celebration.

Speaking at this important event, Samdech Techo Hun Sen appealed for more release of baby fish and aquaculture practice as the natural fish production cannot support the increasing population anymore.

“This annual celebration is just a symbolic event. The release of baby fish does not happen only on July 1, but as everyday as possible,” he underlined.

The Premier also lauded the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ efforts in conducting reforms in the fisheries framework.

Some 1 million baby fish of various species, turtles, frogs … and about 200,000 young lobsters will be released at Trapaing Thmar reservoir.

The National Fisheries Day, which began in 2003, is aimed at increasing the fish population throughout the country.

According to a research conducted by WorldFish organisation in cooperation with the Freshwater Fisheries Development and Research Institute of Cambodia’s Fisheries Administration, Cambodian Agricultural Research and Development Institute, each Cambodian household consumes some 5,3 kilogrammes of fish five times a week and 63 percent of rural people have jobs related to fishing.
