Cambodia’s E-Commerce Sector on the Rise

The Ministry of Commerce has projected that the Cambodia’s e-commerce market value would keep growing, at a value of US$1 billion in 2022 and US$1.7 billion by 2025.

The total market value of e-commerce in Cambodia in 2021 was US$970 million, a 19 percent increase compared to a year earlier, according to the ministry’s commercial bulletin, issued on June 30.

The e-commerce revenue was mainly from fashion US$263 million, electronics US$254 million, and beauty, health and household care US$230 million.

Some 54.9 percent of the e-commerce transactions were conducted via internet on a desktop PC, while the rest on tablet or smartphones, read the report.

In order to control the growth of e-commerce and promote the development of the sector to gain more confidence from national and international investors, including consumers, the Royal Government of Cambodia has established a law on e-commerce which was put into force in 2020.

The E-Commerce Law serves as an important legal basis for the development of e-commerce, especially to protect the interests and establish high trust relationships with e-consumers, as well as to attract local and foreign investors to Cambodia.

Additionally, in order to strengthen the control of online business, the Ministry of Commerce has required online business owners to register with the ministry.
