Cambodian Rice Wins World’s Best Rice Award for Fifth Time

Cambodian premium fragrant rice branded as “Pkar Rumduol” today was crowned the World’s Best Rice at The Rice Trade (TRT) World Rice Conference 2022 held in Phuket, Thailand.
This if the fifth time that Cambodian rice earned this award since its participation in the annual World Best Rice contest. The previous four were in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2018.
Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries H.E. Dith Tina expressed his congratulations to the victory, which he said brought about pride for to the nation.
This World Rice Conference has been organising annually, for the global rice community and the many allied industries that support the production, transport, trade, and consumption of rice.
The presence of Cambodia’s rice in the world platform has promoted the products in international markets.
The Kingdom exported almost 450,000 tonnes of milled rice to markets across the world in the first nine months of this year, up 10 percent compared to the same period in 2021.

U.S. Secretary of Defence to Visit Cambodia Next Week

U.S. Secretary of Defence Lloyd J. Austin III will pay a visit to Cambodia to participate in the 9th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM)-Plus, alongside the ten ASEAN member states and eight dialogue partners, according to a press release of the U.S. Department of Defence dated Nov. 16.
Secretary Austin’s first in-person participation at the forum, which was conducted virtually during the COVID pandemic, continues a long tradition of U.S. Secretary of Defence representation at the ADMM-Plus, it underlined.
On the margins of the ADMM-Plus programme of events, it pointed out, Secretary Austin will hold an informal multilateral engagement with his ASEAN counterparts and meet with his counterparts from Cambodia and a range of partner nations. Each of these engagements will highlight the important strides the Department is taking alongside Allies and partners to bring greater stability, transparency, and openness to the Indo-Pacific region.
Cambodian Ministry of National Defence will host the 9th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Retreat, 9th ADMM-Plus, and Related Meetings in Siem Reap province from Nov. 21 to 23 to discuss the enhancement of the regional cooperation towards peace, security and sustainable prosperity.
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will deliver an opening address on the occasion.
As the host of the ADMM in 2022, Cambodia is firmly committed to strengthening regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Cambodia Organising CAMFOOD/CAMHOTEL’22 & CAMBUILD’22

Cambodia Tourism Federation is organising an international exhibition, CAMFOOD/CAMHOTEL’22 & CAMBUILD’22 to promote the tourism sector and attract more tourists to the Kingdom.
Taking place from Nov. 16 to 18 at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre, Phnom Penh, the expo was initiated under the support of main institutions including Cambodia Hotel Association, Cambodia Restaurant Association, Cambodia Chef Society, Cambodia Food Institute and Cambodia Architects Association.
Addressing the opening ceremony yesterday, H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, spoke highly of the expo displaying the international standard food, hotel and construction supplies in Cambodia.
The event also coincides with the fact that Cambodia has identified 2022 as the first year of the post-COVID-19 tourism recovery as well as the year to restore Cambodia’s tourism sector, he added.
According to Mr. Luu Meng, President of Cambodia Tourism Federation, over 250 national and international supplier companies join to display their products and services at the CAMFOOD/CAMHOTEL’22 & CAMBUILD’22.
The three-day expo is expected to attract the participation of more than 10,000 visitors, he added.

CDC & KOICA Hold 2022 Annual Policy Dialogue on Development Cooperation

The Cambodian Rehabilitation and Development Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CRDB/CDC) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) jointly organised here yesterday a 2022 policy dialogue on development cooperation.
The discussion took place physically at CRDB/CDC. The CRDB/CDC side was headed by H.E. Chhieng Yanara, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and the Secretary General of CRDB/CDC while the KOICA side was led by Mr. Rho Hyunjun, Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office.
According to a press release of KOICA, the main purpose of the dialogue was to discuss KOICA’s activities in Cambodia such as ongoing projects, new projects for 2023 and 2024, country training programmes for 2022 and 2023, and discussion on how to develop new projects for 2025.
On the occasion, H.E. Chhieng Yanara highly valued all the achievements made by KOICA for Cambodia. He also expressed his gratitude to KOICA, and the Government and the people of the Republic of Korea, for continuously supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic development through the implementation of many projects and programmes in Cambodia.
For his part, the KOICA Country Director, Mr. Rho Hyunjun highly praised the Royal Government of Cambodia for its efforts and achievements in the fruitful outcomes from the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits held last week in Phnom Penh.
Mr. Rho also laid stress on next step of working with CDC and the Cambodian relevant ministries to develop the most feasible new projects for 2025.
KOICA has been supporting Cambodia to assist the socio-economic development on four core-priority sectors, Water Management and Public Health, Education, Agriculture and Rural Development, and Transportation through various ODA projects and programmes of a value of about US$336.7 million from 1991-2022.
