Cambodia Ready to Cooperate with ASEAN and China in Promoting Their Relations

Cambodia is ready to cooperation with other ASEAN member countries and China in promoting their relationship as well as the Year of People-to-People Exchanges for sustainable development and prosperity in the region.

The commitment was reaffirmed by H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information of Cambodia in his remarks at the opening ceremony of ASEAN-China Week 2024, held in Changzhi, China’s Shanxi province on Aug. 12 under the theme “ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership: Achieving Prosperity through Innovation.”

The ASEAN-China Week 2024 is an important forum to raise awareness about ASEAN and China, which contributes to the expansion and strengthening of bilateral relations, and reflects their shared commitment to maintaining peace, stability and sustainable development in the region, he said.

H.E. Neth Pheaktra stressed that the ASEAN-China partnership has benefited more than 2 billion people across ASEAN and China through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He also mentioned the benefits
of Cambodia-China relations under the diamond cooperation and iron-clad friendship frameworks, initiated by the leaders of the two countries, as well as the achievements that Cambodia has attained through the BRI, including the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport, the Morodok Techo National Stadium and the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, along with other infrastructure development projects that have been making significant contributions to Cambodia’s progress.

On the occasion, the leaders of ASEAN and China expressed their commitment to expand and strengthen ASEAN-China cooperation towards common prosperity through people-to-people exchanges, and to promote the comprehensive strategic partnership through increased cooperation in the areas of information, economy, trade, tourism and culture.
