Cambodia’s Fragrant Rice Displayed at SIAL Exhibition in Paris

Twelve Cambodian rice exporters under the coordination from the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) have been displaying Cambodian best rice varieties, including Pka Romduol and Sen Kra-ob that have won many world recognitions, at the Salon International de l’Alimentation (SIAL) in Paris, France, from Oct. 19 to 23.

SIAL Paris is the global food trade fair held every two years and specialising in food processing industry. This year, SIAL Paris Exhibition features more than 7,500 booths from various regions, including Asia, Europe, America, and Africa, with an estimated 285,000 participants.

This is the second time CRF attended such event. The first time was in 2014.

‘The purpose of participating in this international food exhibition is to support the Royal Government’s policy in diversifying the markets, standards, food safety, rice seed variety and cultivation in Cambodia,’ CRF said.

The participation is made with the co-support of the Khmer Enterprise (KE) of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, an
d Innovation and USAID Cambodia through Feed the Future Cambodia Harvest III.

The EU is Cambodia’s largest market. In the first three quarters of this year, the Kingdom exported 228,731 tonnes of milled rice to the EU, accounting for 51 percent of the total export of 445,913 tonnes of milled rice.

Cambodia earned US$335 million in revenue from milled rice export and US$1,000 million from paddy rice export during the above-mentioned period.

The CRF has set a plan to promote Cambodia’s fragrant rice in European countries in a bid to spread out the quality of milled rice.

The federation has planned to lead rice exporters to join exhibitions in the EU countries such as France, Germany, Holland, Belgium and other countries to push direct sales to customers.
