KOTA BHARU, About 24.8 per cent of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan’s (UMK) 13,490 students have established their entrepreneurial ventures, making UMK the first public university in the country to produce student entrepreneurs, said Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Razli Che Razak.
“UMK is a university based on entrepreneurship, whose performance indicators show that it is the best institution capable of producing 15.4 per cent of graduate entrepreneurs.
“Students are exposed to the entrepreneurial sector and they have established companies while still studying and continue with that inspiration after graduation to generate income,” he said after attending the Clasiti brand launch by UMK’s downstream company SNH Cosmetic Lab Sdn Bhd at UMK’s Kota Campus here today.
Razli said UMK provides capital to help students involved in running their own companies and assist them in registering under the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) and the Companies Commission of Malaysia.
On the launch, Razli sai
d a UMK researcher, Prof Dr Siti Nuurul Huda, produced skincare products comprising lip balm and lotion using local fruits.
“UMK is proud with the creation of this product where watermelon rinds that are usually discarded, are used to make a product. We will use the shopfronts of strategic partners to market the products.
“The products are well received by users… and will be expanded to overseas markets,” he added.
