Over US$260,000 Grant from Japan for Medical Equipment Installation at a Referral Hospital in Thbong Khmum

The Government of Japan has agreed to extend US$263,760 in grant to Krouch Chhmar operational district in Thbong Khmum province to support the ‘The Project for Installing Medical Equipment at Krouch Chhmar Referral Hospital in Thbong Khmum Province”.
The grant contract was signed here yesterday between Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. MIKAMI Masahiro and representative of the recipient institution, under the witness of H.E. CHEA Sophara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction.
According to a press release of the Embassy of Japan, under the grant, 17 kinds of medical equipment will be installed at Krouch Chhmar Referral Hospital in Thbong Khmum province to improve its capacity to provide better medical treatment for patients. After implementing this project, it is expected that patients could receive more advanced treatment at the hospital, and less patients being transferred to other hospital far away.
The grant assistance is made under the framework, the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (“KUSANONE” Grant).
Japan’s “KUSANONE” Projects started in Cambodia in 1991 in order to support Cambodia’s reconstruction and development at the grassroots level. The assistance aims to protect those who are vulnerable due to various factors such as poverty and/or misfortunes that directly threaten their lives, livelihood, and dignity, as well as to promote self-reliance of local communities.
Since 1991, the Government of Japan has provided over US$65 million for mainly local authorities and non-governmental organisations to implement 664 KUSANONE projects throughout Cambodia.
