#QuranHour 2024: Embrace Merdeka Values By Reflecting On Quranic Verses – Mohd Na’im


PUTRAJAYA, Ahead of tomorrow’s 67th National Day celebration, Malaysians, especially Muslims, are urged to reflect on two Quranic verses that highlight the importance of good manners and Allah’s creation of nations and tribes for people to understand one another.

Speaking to the media after attending the Malaysia #QuranHour programme organised by Yayasan Ummah Ikhlas, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar urged the Muslim community to heed two verses from Surah Al-Hujurat and Surah Al-Jumu’ah to liberate themselves from negative values.

He said that Surah Al-Hujurat holds significant meaning, as it provides guidance for building a civilisation founded on virtuous values.

‘Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when outlining the Malaysia MADANI idea, emphasised (the importance of) cultivating good manners and moral.

‘It’s pointless to be independent physically if we lack good manners. We need to build the economy and the nation while upholding good
values,’ he said.

Also present at the event was Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Mohd Na’im added that Surah Al-Hujurat includes a verse stating that Allah created people in different nations and tribes to enable them to know one another.

‘By getting to know each other, we build understanding and avoid the negative behaviours mentioned by Allah, such as such as insulting or looking down (on one another),’ he said.

Mohd Na’im also congratulated also congratulated the organisers for successfully hosting the event annually and for approaching its tenth anniversary.

This year’s National Day celebration will take place at Dataran Putrajaya, under the theme ‘Malaysia MADANI: Jiwa Merdeka’.
