12 Sports Officially Approved for ASEAN Para Games 2023 in Cambodia

The Southeast Asian Para Sports Federation Council has endorsed 12 kinds of Sports for the 12th ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia.

H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) and of the Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC) presented the sport kinds identified for the SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games 2023 in a meeting of the Southeast Asian Para Sports Federation Council in Solo, Indonesia on July 29.

The 12 sports include boccia, a five-side football (brain movement), blind basketball, badminton, table tennis, sitting volleyball, chess, a seven-side football (brain movement), athletics, swimming, weightlifting, and wheelchair basketball.

Other sport kinds proposed are pending further consideration, said the secretary general.

Cambodia will host the 12th ASEAN Para Games from June 3 to 9, 2023.

U.S Secretary of State Confirms His Travel to Cambodia

U.S. Secretary of State H.E. Antony J. Blinken has confirmed his trip to Cambodia to attend different ASEAN-related meetings.

According to a news release, H.E. Antony J. Blinken will be in Phnom Penh on Aug. 3-5 to participate in the U.S.-ASEAN Ministerial Meeting, the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and the ASEAN Regional Forum.

“At each ministerial, the Secretary will emphasise the United States’ commitment to ASEAN centrality and successful implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific. He will also address the COVID-19 pandemic, economic cooperation, the fight against climate change, the crisis in Burma, and Russia’s war in Ukraine,” it underlined.

During his stay in Cambodia, the source pointed out, the U.S. secretary of state will meet bilaterally with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn to discuss U.S. support for ASEAN and efforts to strengthen the bilateral relationship with Cambodia.

H.E. Antony J. Blinken will also engage with alumni of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative, it added.

After Cambodia, the U.S. secretary of state will continue his travel to the Philippines, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Rwanda until Aug. 12.
