KUALA LUMPUR, The ‘Inspirasi Pelajar Inovasi Muzium’ (IPIM) or Museum Innovation Student Inspiration programme, a structured museum education programme, has been open since June 14.

In a statement today, the Ministry of National Unity said the programme is being implemented by the ministry through the Department of Museums Malaysia in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

According to the statement, IPIM is a programme designed through a combination of formal and informal education (museum education) using a hands-on approach to museum collections to support the teaching and learning process and pedagogy.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang expressed his hope that the programme will foster understanding and awareness among the younger generation, especially school students, regarding the diversity of historical and cultural heritage that must be appreciated and preserved as a shared national identity.

He said teachers can use museum institutions as a PdP support system to enhance stude
nt outcomes.

The IPIM programme utilises a Museum Education Plan based on collections (artefacts) specifically designed according to the Curriculum and Assessment Standard Document (DSKP) and the Daily Lesson Plan (RPH) of the History subject.

Over 113,000 people in Cambodia are expected to benefit from better water supply infrastructure following the approval on June 21 of a new World Bank supported project, said the bank in a news release.

Funded by a US$145 million credit from the World Bank’s International Development Association, the Cambodia Water Security Improvement Project will improve water security, increase agricultural productivity, and build resilience to climate risks, it pointed out.

‘This project helps Cambodia move toward sustainable water security and greater agricultural productivity,’ said Ms. Maryam Salim, World Bank Country Manager for Cambodia. ‘Investing now in climate resilience, planning, and better infrastructure not only addresses the immediate water needs of Cambodian farmers and households, but also lays the groundwork for long-term water service delivery.’

According to the news release, although Cambodia has abundant water, seasonal and regional differences in rainfall bring challenges to urban and rural water su
pply. Climate projections suggest flooding and drought will become more frequent and severe, placing even more strain on the country’s capacity to manage its freshwater resources. This would affect food production and economic growth.

The project will be implemented over five years by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries. It will enhance water resource management by expanding hydrometeorological stations, updating policies and regulations, preparing climate-informed river basin management plans, and strengthening the performance of central and provincial water authorities.

Water supply systems for households and irrigation are to be rehabilitated and upgraded, while the project will train Famer Water User Communities and provide technical assistance for improved operation and maintenance of infrastructure. With central and provincial departments for agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, measures will be taken to help farmers adopt climate-s
mart technologies that improve productivity and reduce emissions in agriculture.

MUAR, The Defence Ministry (Mindef) aims to channel ‘Sokongan Pengukuhan Keusahawanan Luar Bandar’ (SPKLB) support grants to 200 Armed Forces veteran entrepreneurs this year.

Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said SPKLB is a collaboration between Mindef, through the Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (Perhebat) and the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKDW), through Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).

‘We have selected veterans, who are entrepreneurs in various fields, to receive the SPKLB assistance grant from KKDW, amounting to RM5,000 each,’ he told reporters after the ‘Pemerkasaan Usahawan Veteran ATM’ (PUVET ATM) programme here today.

Adly said entrepreneurship is a focus for Mindef because nearly 80 per cent of participants who undergo courses at Perhebat before retiring from the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) choose the field.

However, he noted that Mindef is also collaborating with the Human Resources Ministry and other ministries to provide new income opportunities besides entrepreneurship for m
ilitary veterans.

Earlier, Adly presented the SPKLB grant to 20 MAF veteran entrepreneurs in Johor.

Through PUVET ATM, veterans also benefit from business matching, direct access to entrepreneurial incentives such as facilities, training and consultancy in aspects of packaging, branding and marketing.

The programme focuses on empowering veterans in their second careers, particularly in entrepreneurship, to help those in the B40 group improve their living standards.

PUVET ATM also acts as a facilitator and connector to identify and channel entrepreneurial incentives, including expert services, facilities, grants and training required by MAF veteran entrepreneurs to advance their businesses.

KUCHING, The political stability and clear policies upheld by Sarawak’s leadership have enabled the state to emerge as a new economic powerhouse in Malaysia.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Sarawak has demonstrated impressive economic growth, contributing to increased interest from foreign investors.

Speaking at the Sarawak 2024 Gawai Dayak celebration dinner here tonight, he said last year’s investment figures were the highest in the nation’s history.

‘In addition to well-known states like Penang, Selangor and Johor, Sarawak has suddenly emerged as an economic giant,’ he said.

He said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his state cabinet have shown strong commitment to ensuring that these clear policies are well understood and effectively implemented.

Anwar said his recent visits to several countries such as Germany and Japan have also revealed investors’ confidence in Sarawak’s potential.

‘What to me is remarkable, and I must state this with great confidence and pride, is
that Sarawak is seen as a major hub in the region,’ he said.

The prime minister said Sarawak is no longer just catching up with other economic powerhouses in the country but has already surpassed the economic growth projections made ten years ago.

Meanwhile, Anwar said the collaboration agreed upon by the Federal Government, allowing the Sarawak government to initially fund federal development projects in the state, aims to reduce bureaucratic hurdles that delay project implementation.

‘As long as it follows financial regulations, without any misappropriation, proceed with the projects. This is our decision now to facilitate and expedite programmes,’ he added.
