Wrestling has won 20 medals, of which 5 gold, 4 silver and 11 bronze at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia from May 5 to 17, 2023.
The number of medals earned set a new record in Cambodia's history, Mr. Casey Barnett, Vice President of the Wrestling Federation of Cambodia (WFC), told reporters following the completion ceremony of Wrestling competition here in Phnom Penh on May 16.
In 2013, Cambodia won only 10 medals – 4 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze – at the SEA Games in Myanmar, continued Mr. Casey Barnett.
Cambodian national wrestlers were working hard in training both in the country and overseas, he added.
Cambodia has expected 3 gold medals at the 32nd SEA Games, and as the result, it obtained up to 5, which goes beyond the target, according to Mr. Casey Barnett.
Wrestling is a kind of Olympic sport. This reflects that Cambodia's sports sector is developing and moving to the regional and world levels.
Besides Wrestling, Judo, Athletics, Swimming and E-Sports also earned a new gold medal record in Cambodia's history.
Cambodia yesterday finished the regional games it hosted since May 5 with a total of 282 medals: 81 gold, 74 silver and 127 bronze, thus standing at the 4th place, according to the latest update of the Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC) this morning.
The official Closing Ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia will take place at the newly-built Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh this evening with more interesting and more amazing spectacle.
