Angkor Resort Receives Nearly 60,000 Tourists in First Six Months

Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap province welcomed 59,983 foreign tourists in the first six months of this year, earning more than US$2.4 million.

The figures were shared by the Angkor Enterprise, the state-owned institution in charge of Angkor income management, in a press release made public yesterday.

Both the number of foreign visitors and the income show a sharp increase of over 1,000 percent compared to the same period last year, it pointed out.

Of the income, it added, more than US$119,966 were donated to Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation to support the humanitarian activities of Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospitals.

In June alone, the Angkor entrance tickets were sold to 14,204 foreign tourists, generating US$563,653 as income.

Moreover, during the first semester, a total of 1,066 foreign tourists visited Koh Ker Temple in Preah Vihear province, and some US$15,990 was generated from ticket sales.

Cambodia’s tourism sector has been recovering after being seriously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
