Arrest of Two Suspects in Lahat Linked to Arson and Mischief Cases

Ipoh – The Ipoh Police have arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in an arson incident at Taman Badrishah in Lahat, potentially resolving four cases of mischief involving fire and property defacement in the Ipoh area.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the suspects admitted to committing acts of mischief since the beginning of the month. However, given their history, police suspect their criminal activities might not be recent. The investigation into these allegations is ongoing.

Ipoh police chief ACP Yahaya Hassan stated that the suspects, aged 27 and 44, were apprehended at a petrol station in Jalan Besar Chemor around 6.30 pm yesterday. During the arrest, police confiscated various items, including Proton Saga BLM car, mobile phones, and clothes, believed to be linked to the crimes.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly hired through an advertisement on Facebook by an unidentified person who communicated with them solely via the WhatsApp application.

Both suspects have extensive criminal records, with 13 and 20 previous cases related to criminal and narcotics offenses, respectively. They also tested positive for methamphetamine.

The arrest followed an incident reported yesterday morning, where the fire department responded to a blaze that started with a Proton X50 car parked in the garage of a house in Lahat. The fire subsequently spread to other parts of the residence.

This development marks a significant breakthrough in the police’s efforts to address a series of mischief and arson incidents in the area, highlighting their ongoing commitment to maintaining public safety and order.
