Australia Helps Enhance Cambodia’s Agriculture Processing Sector

Australian Government is supporting and enhancing Cambodia’s agriculture processing sector, according to the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh.

Through the Australian Government supported CAVAC programme (Cambodia-Australia Agricultural Value Chain), the source continued, Australia is providing new resources to support the modernisation of the Cambodian agriculture sector and development of an agro-processing industry (API), which can significantly boost Cambodia’s processing capabilities and help drive resilient and inclusive growth.

Recently, it added, CAVAC organised a local study tour for the AIP (Agro-industrial Park) steering committee, DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia) representatives, and the programme team members. The tour covered four existing special economic zones and parks in Kandal, Kampong Speu and Sihanoukville.

The exposure visit helped all the AIP committee members gain a better understanding of the current operating modalities, challenges, and opportunities of the zone operations, the embassy said, stressing that these insights will help committee members guide the future development of AIPs in Cambodia.
