Cambodia and Australia Meet for Cooperation Discussion

H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Senator the Honourable Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, discussed the cooperation between both countries in a bilateral meeting on Aug. 5, on the margins of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings in Phnom Penh.

According to H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Deputy PM PRAK Sokhonn and Senator Penny Wong recalled their recent telephone conversation in June. They expressed satisfaction with the progress of bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their joint commitment to further strengthening the long-standing relations in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks, especially within the framework of the ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations for mutual benefits and for peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn thanked Australia for supporting Cambodia peace process and her invaluable and continued assistance to Cambodia socio-economic development, particularly the provision of the 2.35 million Pfizer doses and the recent first shipment of about 200,000 pediatric doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn also touched on his second visit to Myanmar in his capacity as Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair by emphasising the complexity and challenges of Myanmar crisis and the outcomes of the visit. He reaffirmed his commitment to continue his endeavours in assisting Myanmar’s return to normalcy.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn and Senator Penny Wong also exchanged views on various regional and international issues of common concerns.
