Cambodia Asks UN to Continue Supporting its Decentralisation and Deconcentration Reform

Cambodia has asked the United Nations (UN) to continue supporting Cambodia’s decentralisation and deconcentration reform efforts.
The request was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng in a farewell meeting with Ms. Pauline Tamesis, UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia here in Phnom Penh on April 5.
Samdech Sar Kheng underlined that the government has put forth another ten-year plan phase II on decentralisation and deconcentration reform work.
The work will focus on delegation of power and human and financial resources to the sub-national level, and on promoting public engagement in the decentralisation and deconcentration reform process.
The deputy prime minister wanted the UN team to study the details of the plan and identify areas that it can support.
Even though the decentralisation and deconcentration reform is new for Cambodia, there is remarkable progress so far thanks partly to the contribution of the UN’s partnership organisations, said the deputy prime minister.
Ms. Pauline Tamesis spoke highly of the ministry’s efforts in the reform and pledged to continue working with the Royal Government of Cambodia in all sectors, especially the support for the Rectangular Strategy rollout.
