Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) and the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation have discussed mine action partnership and cooperation.
The discussion took place here at the CMAA headquarters late last week between H.E. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of CMAA and a delegation of the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation led by Mr. Shathel Fahs, Technical Advisor on Mine Action Partnership and Cooperation.
The two sides looked forward to bringing new technologies for mine clearance and providing training and raising mine awareness, especially at vulnerable communities.
H.E. Ly Thuch thanked the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation for its partnership with CMAA since 1998, under which the foundation has contributed to building capacity and providing technical training on explosive ordnance disposal (EOD).
H.E. Senior Minister welcomed the plan of the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation and Platinum East to sign a memorandum of understanding to continue strengthening partnership and cooperation with CMAA, as well as their intention to help turn Cambodia into a leading centre in capacity building and technical training on mine action in the region and the world.
H.E. Ly Thuch also asked the foundation to assist the QM Team of CMAA in field quality control operations.
So far, Cambodia’s mine clearance operation has cleared 2,328 square kilometres of land of landmines and explosive remnant of war (ERW).
About 1,118,810 anti-personnel mines, 25,952 anti-tank mines, and 2,983,416 cluster bombs have been found and destroyed through the humanitarian activity.
