The “2nd Cambodia-Korea Joint Conference on ENT (Ears Nose Throat) Medicine” was organised last Saturday at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh to share knowledge and experience between both countries’ related medical doctors.
Jointly organised by the Cambodian Ministry of Health and Preah Ang Duong Hospital, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) together with the Soonchunhyang University Medical Centre of the Republic of Korea, the joint conference was presided over by H.E. Prof. Mam Bunheng, Cambodian Minister of Health, H.E. Professor Lou Lykheang, Director of Preah Ang Duong Hospital, Mr. Kim Kwang Wook, Deputy Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office, and Professor Yoo Byung Wook, Project Manager, Soonchunhyang University Medical Centre.
More than 120 participants including representatives from the Ministry of Health, officials from KOICA, Preah Ang Duong Hospital, and Soonchunhyang University Medical Centre as well as 7 Korean doctors and 5 Korean nurses participated in the conference.
Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Prof. Mam Bunheng expressed his deep gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Korea for providing new building and technical assistance for ear, nose and throat disease at Preah Ang Duong Hospital through KOICA and Soonchunghyang University Medical Centre.
For his part, Mr. Kim Kwang Wook spoke highly of the conference, saying that it was the 2nd of its kind after the 1st one held on Aug. 15, 2019 and the inauguration ceremony to finalise the official handover and takeover of the Cambodia-Korea Friendship ENT Building to the Ministry of Health of Cambodia on Mar. 28, 2022.
He also underlined that the objective of this 2nd conference was to share and exchange each country’s experiences and skills especially in the empowerment of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery through multi-disciplinary approach.
During the conference, the Cambodian side presented about 1)- Knowledge Sharing ENT Head & Neck, 2)- Knowledge Sharing Plastic Surgery, 3)- Major cases at PADH ENT ear part, and 4)- Major cases at PADH Head & Neck part, while the Korean side explained about 1)-Head and Neck reconstruction surgery, 2)-Major cases at Soonchunhyang University Medical Centre dentistry related to ENT, 3)- ENT(Ear) Case Study, ENT(Head & Neck) Case Study, and 4)- Discussion on latest ENT surgery technique.
The Government of the Republic of Korea, through KOICA, has provided US$8 million to Cambodia for the project “Capacity Building of Ears Nose Throat (ENT) Centre in Preah Ang Duong Hospital” with implementation period from 2018 to 2022. A five-storey of new ENT building was constructed in Preah Ang Duong Hospital and installed with advanced equipment for diagnosis, treatment and operation, to help improve medical service of hospital.
Besides upgrading physical infrastructure, the capacity of specialist doctors and staffs were advanced via provision of in-service training programme and transferring advanced knowledge and sharing experience from Korean doctors.
