Cambodian PM: Vaccination Remains a Key Measure to Combat COVID-19

Vaccination continues to be a key measure to fight against COVID-19 while Cambodia as well as the world have been facing the new COVID variant, Omicron.
The remark was made by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the handover ceremony of 300,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines donated by the Government and people of Poland to the Government and people of Cambodia, held at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this morning.
“Cambodia considers COVID-19 vaccination a strategic priority and highly appreciates the vaccine sharing to accelerate the global vaccination,” he stressed.
The Cambodian Premier expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Poland for the donation, adding that the donated AstraZeneca vaccines will contribute significantly to the nationwide booster dose campaign in Cambodia.
With the vaccination rate of about 90 percent of the total population of 16 million as of Jan. 29, 2022, he added, Cambodia can control the transmission, reduce hospitalisations and mortality rate to a low level, and maintain the socio-economic process.
“The success of national vaccination campaign has made the Cambodian economy grow more than expected. The Cambodian economy is estimated to grow up to 3 percent in 2021 and continue to increase to over 5 percent in 2022 thanks to the full reopening of the country and the return to normal of socio-economic activities in all domains,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen said.
For her part, H.E. Ms. Carmen MORENO, EU Ambassador to Cambodia, said the vaccine delivery proves the commitment of Team Europe with Cambodia in the fight against the pandemic.
“We stand together with Cambodia in this challenging time and continue to work together [with the Kingdom] to ensure sustainable economic and social recovery,” she underlined.
With the newly arrived vaccines, Cambodia will have some 44 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines both through purchases and donations.
