Energy Efficiency Sector Development Virtually Discussed

Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have virtually discussed Energy Efficiency Sector Development Programme (EESDP).

The meeting was held at the ministry on Jan. 25 between H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of MPWT and Mr. Pradeep Tharakan, ADB’s expert in charge of climate change.

The discussion focused on national policy on effective energy use, energy saving, mainly on renewable energies such as solar power and wind power and the use of electric vehicles (EVs) to cut CO2 emissions.

The ADB expert group informed H.E. Minister of the selection of a building in Phnom Penh for a pilot project of using a tool to increase the effectiveness of energy use, reduce expenses and contribute to reducing CO2 emissions.

The minister expressed his full support for the EESDP initiatives and requested the ADB side to consider expanding the scope of LED use in Phnom Penh capital and the provinces of Kampong Cham, Kampot, Kep, Koh Kong and so on.
