GYMNAST SHARUL AIMY UNCERTAIN ABOUT PARTICIPATING IN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

SERDANG, National gymnast Muhammad Sharul Aimy Kamaru Hisam is still uncertain about participating in the national gymnastics championships scheduled for June 29-30.

According to the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games bronze medallist, he is not yet fully fit as he is still plagued by an ankle injury that he has been dealing with since last year.

“I’m not sure yet (about the national gymnastics championships) because I am currently focused on recovering from my ankle injury. I am still waiting for the doctor’s decision next week on whether I need to remove the cyst only or undergo surgery.

“This injury has been bothering me for over a year now, but it hasn’t had a severe impact. It just distracts my focus, especially during training,” he told reporters recently.

Muhammad Sharul Aimy said that if he is unable to participate in the championship, his focus will shift to preparing for the SEA Games in Thailand next year.

Earlier, the 22-year-old athlete made history by winning the country’s first medal at the 2024 A
sian Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Sunday.

Muhammad Sharul Aimy clinched the bronze medal in the vault event, scoring 14.466 points behind Filipino champion Carlos Yulo (14.883 points) and host athlete Abdulaziz Mirvaliev (14.783 points), who took the gold and silver medals respectively.
