Indian Ambassador Stresses the Need to Simultaneously Address Cyber Threat Challenge to Children

Ambassador of the Republic of India to Cambodia H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade has noted the importance of digital empowerment and the need of simultaneously addressing the challenges of cyber threats to children, vulnerable groups exposed to cyber bullies, online sexual abuse & exploitation.
The Indian diplomat made the remarks while presiding over the closing ceremony of the workshop on Child Online protection held from Aug. 23-27, 2021 by Ministry of Post and Telecommunications and Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
The workshop series is part of project “Child online risks awareness Campaign in Cambodia” that was funded and supported by Government of India under its Quick Impact Project (QIP) scheme, said a press release from the Embassy of India AKP received this afternoon.
According to the release, the project is aimed at reducing risks, ensuring safe online environment for every citizen in Cambodia. Particular attention was given to the most vulnerable group, women and children, so that they can equally enjoy the utmost benefits of the advanced technological developments. Both Government of India and Royal Government of Cambodia acknowledge that Child Online Risks are major social issues in the digital era. The project included production of 4 high quality video clips and other creative materials related to child online risks and protection and use them in digital awareness campaign targeting parents and children with target reach of 1 million views.
The project demonstrated both quick as well as high impact intervention on Child Online Risks. It has received positive response among children and parents. It is hoped that the informative materials will be used for long term dissemination.
The Quick Impact Projects are part of the Mekong Ganga Cooperation (MGC) framework. Since 2015-16, India has been assisting Cambodia with small Socio-Economic projects in the fields of agriculture, health, women empowerment, capacity building, sanitation, environment and information technology etc. These Projects have received overwhelming response and created a distinct and visible impact among beneficiaries. India has undertaken 39 projects so far, 20 of them have been completed and 19 are at various stages of implementation. In 2020-21, Government of India will sanction 10 more such projects in Cambodia.
