PERAK GOVT WELCOMES PROPOSAL TO BUILD GALLERY FOR LATE DATUK M DAUD KILAU

IPOH, The Perak Government welcomes the proposal to build a special gallery for the legendary singer, the late Datuk M Daud Kilau in Bagan Datuk district.

State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee, said that the construction plan needs to be considered from various perspectives, including obtaining approval from the singer’s family and assessing the tourist attraction factor.

‘Regardless of whose gallery it is, it requires a negotiation process with the owner or family, not something the state government can do arbitrarily. We need to respect their views as well,” he said during a press conference after witnessing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing between Tourism Perak and Grab Malaysia today.

The late M Daud Kilau, 85, died at 4.46 pm last Monday due to a bacterial infection while receiving treatment at Teluk Intan Hospital.

His remains were laid to rest at the Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Sungai Balai Baroh, Bagan Datuk, yesterday.

He is survived by widow Datin Rohani Awang Ngah, 66, and two children, Noraini, 58, and Ahmad Zaini, 52, as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The ‘Raja Gelek Malaysia’ and the singer of the popular song Cek Mek Molek had been admitted to the hospital several times due to health issues in recent years after being diagnosed with diabetes, besides back pain and an unstable heart.

Regarding today’s event, Loh said that the collaboration between Tourism Perak and Grab Malaysia focuses on three main areas – an exclusive e-hailing partnership, a five-star dining experience with Grab Food, and Grab drivers serving as ambassadors for the Visit Perak 2024 (TMP) initiative.
