In Sungai Petani, the Komuniti @Stats Programme, organized by the Kedah Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) in collaboration with the Al-Busyra Mosque, attracted more than 3,000 attendees. The event, held near the mosque yesterday, was part of the celebrations for National Statistics Day (HSN), which occurs annually on October 20.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this year’s HSN celebration embraced the theme “Statistik Nadi Kehidupan”. The program, officiated by Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin, focused on promoting the upcoming 2024 agricultural census. The aim was to enhance statistical literacy within the local community and elucidate the pivotal role of DOSM as the prime provider of official statistics in the country. For more information on the agricultural census, the public can visit www.myagricensus.gov.my.

One of the highlights of the event was the launch of OpenDOSM NextGen, a platform offering data catalogues and visualizations to aid in various data analyses. This open-source data exchange platform is accessible via https://open.dosm.gov.my.

The day’s activities commenced with a fun run, followed by knowledge-sharing sessions conducted by the Kedah Agriculture Department and Indah Water Konsortium (IWK). The evening concluded with the Merbok Berselawat event. Attendees also enjoyed various booths set up by government agencies and private sector entities, a food bazaar, the Rahmah Sales Programme, a treasure hunt, and a colouring contest.

In addition, the Kedah DOSM has outlined several activities and programmes to mark this year’s HSN. These include hiking at Darul Aman Hill, Kedah DOSM exhibitions at multiple locations, sports tournaments in futsal and netball, and the Literasi Statistik programme at Universiti Utara Malaysia’s School of Quantitative Sciences.
