Ten Relief Centres Open in Selangor and Perak Amid Floods

KUALA LUMPUR – As of 8 pm today, ten relief centres are operational in Selangor and Perak to provide shelter for victims affected by recent floods.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, In Selangor, there has been a slight decrease in the number of flood evacuees. According to the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) Info Bencana portal, the current count is 547 individuals from 144 families, down from 579 from 157 families earlier in the day. These evacuees are being accommodated at six relief centres located in Sepang and Hulu Langat.

Specifically, in Hulu Langat, 87 victims are sheltered at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bangi and SK Semenyih. In Sepang, the remaining 460 evacuees are housed across four centres: Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Dato Ahmad Razali, Dewan Orang Ramai Jenderam Hilir, Dewan Orang Ramai Taman Gemilang, and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dengkil.

Meanwhile, in Perak, the number of evacuees has risen to 257 individuals from 74 families, an increase from the 219 individuals from 63 families reported earlier in the day. This information was provided by the Perak Disaster Management Committee secretariat. The evacuees are distributed across four centres in the Hilir Perak and Kerian districts.

In Hilir Perak, Dewan Serbaguna Padang Tembak is currently housing 103 evacuees from 31 families. Although no victims remain at Dewan Majlis Perbandaran Teluk Intan, the centre is still officially operational. In Kerian, the count of flood victims remains steady at 97 individuals from 24 families, who are accommodated at SK Changkat Lobak. Additionally, 57 individuals from 19 families are taking shelter at the centre at SK Alor Pongsu.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department has reported concerning water levels in the region. The water in Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong is at a danger level, with a reading of 4.08 metres. Meanwhile, Sungai Kinta at Weir Tanjung Tualang is at the alert level, registering at 13.10 metres.

The Perak Public Works Department has announced the closure of the FT 147 route Jalan Selama in Kerian due to a landslide. As an alternative, the public can use the route on Jalan Pintasan Alor Pongsu-Bukit Merah.
