The First Ever Cambodia-U.S. Public-Private Sector Dialogue Held

The first ever Cambodia-U.S. Public-Private Sector Dialogue was held here on Sept. 19 to listen to concerns and address challenges of American investors in Cambodia as well as to discuss ways to further attract more American investors who have targeted the Kingdom as their investment hub.

The Cambodian sided was led by H.E. SUN Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC); while the American side was headed by Ms. Bridgette L. Walker, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia, with the participation of representatives from government ministries and institutions, the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council (U.S.-ABC) and the private sector as well as Mr. Casey Barnett, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (AmCham), and many relevant officials.

The Cambodia-U.S. Public-Private Sector Dialogue reflected the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC)’s high attention to build more confidence among all stakeholders, including the existing and
new investors through increasing the effectiveness of public-private sector dialogue, both at the political and technical level.

On the occasion, H.E. SUN Chanthol mentioned that the dialogue is in line with Cambodia’s vision of investment source diversification, particularly from the U.S., as well as the CDC’s ‘knock-on-door’ mission to the U.S. next week.

For her part, Ms. Bridgette L. Walker expressed her pleasure for taking part in organising the dialogue to discuss Cambodia’s investment environment, hoping that more and more American companies would come to invest in Cambodia in contribution to the Kingdom’s economic growth and development.

She reaffirmed the U.S.’ continued commitment to work with Cambodia to expand trade and investment activities between the two countries, and is optimistic about Cambodia’s effort in investment attraction and the CDC’s aforementioned two-week-long mission to the U.S.
