UN to Continue Supporting Cambodia’s Development

AKP Phnom Penh, April 11, 2022 –The United Nations system is committed to continuing to support the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) to achieve priority works in country’s development as well as the implementation of “The Strategic Framework and Programmes for Economic Recovery in the Context of Living with the COVID-19 in a New Normal 2021-2023” through working more closely with the RGC’s line ministries and agencies, including development partners.
The firm commitment was stated by Ms. Paulina Temesis, outgoing United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC), in a farewell meeting here late last week with H.E. Chhieng Yanara, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the Cambodian Rehabilitation and Development Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CRDB/CDC).
On the occasion Ms. Pauline Tamesis expressed profound gratitude to the strong and close cooperation and partnership with the CDC and the RGC’s line ministries and agencies, and highly valued the RGC’s efforts in achieving progress in socio-economic development, especially in the context of COVID-19.
Ms. Pauline Tamesis stated that the draft results report on the progress of the implementation of United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2021 has been prepared, and requested CRDB/CDC to facilitate the sharing of draft report with relevant ministries and institutions in order to provide additional inputs to the UNRC before publication.
Meanwhile, Ms. Pauline Tamesis made a brief on the progress and results of the implementation of UNDAF 2019-2023, and the Common Country Analysis (CCA) document that studies and analyses the country situation in terms of progressing towards sustainable development goals.
The progress of these works functioned well and will be completed as planned, she said, adding that the UN system has updated and modified the roadmap of United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2024-2028.
The UN system in Cambodia disbursed a total amount of US$ 92.10 million for the implementation of UNDAF in 2021, and plans to disburse approximately US$ 77 million in 2022, according to the Cambodia ODA Database.
For his part, H.E. Chhieng Yanara thanked the UN system for its contribution to the socio-economic development of Cambodia and wished Ms. Pauline Tamesis success in her new mission.
