PM Calls for More Push for Cambodia’s Digital Education

Cambodia Prime Minister has urged the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and stakeholders to continue promoting digital education in Cambodia responsive to the national, regional and global development.
The Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen made the call in his message to mark the start of the academic year 2022-2023 on Jan. 2.
Paying attention to teachers, building a stronger and more vibrant education system, and reforming education services and programmes to build human resources are the must, said Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen further encouraged the media to help promote children’s schooling and the importance of education, and produce educational programmes and videos for the students and teachers.
He also thanked all level leaderships, relevant ministries-institutions, authorities, parents, development partners, administrators of education institutions, professors and teachers for their high responsibility to ensure efficient and effective learning and teaching process so far.
Addressing the beginning of the new academic year at Hun Sen Prasoth High School, Svay Rieng province this morning, H.E. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, underlined the ministry’s commitment to further promote education, especially the digital education.
He outlined the ministry’s priorities in response to the education transformation including safe reopening of school, school reform, teacher capacity development, digital education, STEM education, and youth’s skill development for the 21st century.

Dhaka Stock Exchange Extends Technology Partnership with Nasdaq

NEW YORK and DHAKA, Bangladesh, Jan. 02, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Nasdaq (Nasdaq: NDAQ) today announced the extension of their partnership where Nasdaq provides DSE with trading technology. PM and Spouse Visit Victims of Sexual Assaults and Trafficking of AFESIP

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen spent their first day of the New Year with the victims of sexual assaults and trafficking at the Tom Dy Centre of AFESIP-Cambodia in Phnom Penh.
At the same time, they presided over the inauguration ceremony of the centre’s three-storey building of 40 rooms, whose construction was funded by the Premier and his spouse.
The centre is situated in village 24, Sangkat Prey Sar, Khan Dangkor. It is providing psychological treatments and vocational training to the girls and women who are victims of sexual assaults and trafficking. There are currently 32 staff, about 80 percent of them were former victims, and 148 victims in the centre.
Established in 1996, AFESIP-Cambodia is an NGO working actively on caring for and securing the rights of victims or at risk of being victims of sexual trafficking, violence, abuse or indentured slavery and exploitation and to successfully recover, getting education/training and reintegrate them into mainstream society through financial independence in a sustainable and innovative manner.
According to Ms. Mam Somaly, Founder and Director of AFESIP-Cambodia, the centre has so far assisted some 7,000 victims of sexual assaults and trafficking.
Samdech Techo and Samdech Kittiprittpundit have been paying high attention to their well-being and their rehabilitation by providing 1,200 kg of milled rice and 10 million Riel (US$2,500) for meals to the centre monthly, and 100,000 Riel (US$25) to each victim each month.

PM to Continue to Support AFESIP-Cambodia

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen this morning reconfirmed their continued support to the AFESIP-Cambodia.
While he and his spouse were visiting the victims of sexual assaults and trafficking at the Tom Dy Centre of AFESIP-Cambodia, located in village 24, Sangkat Prey Sar, Khan Dangkor, Phnom Penh, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said each of the victim will continue to receive monthly 100,000 Riel (US$25), while the centre will receive 20 million Riel for foods, up from 10 million Riel previously, in addition to the 1,200 kg of high quality of milled rice per month.
Moreover, he added, the centre will get US$50,000 annually as reserve fund starting from this year.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen took the opportunity to urge for attention to the education of the victims, saying that they must have at least a Bachelor’s degree. “Education is what we can provide for them as a long-term assistance besides their meals,” he stressed.
AFESIP is a non-governmental, non-partisan, and non-religious organisation established at the grass-root level in Cambodia in 1996 to care for and secure the rights of women and girls victimised by or being at risk of human trafficking and sex slavery.

PM: Preschoolers, No Need to Appear in Court Hearing

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has supported the request of AFESIP-Cambodia’s Founder Ms. Mam Somaly not to let children under five years old who are victims of sexual assaults appear in a court hearing.
The Premier voiced the support while he and his spouse were visiting the victims of sexual assaults and trafficking at the Tom Dy Centre of AFESIP-Cambodia, located in village 24, Sangkat Prey Sar, Khan Dangkor, Phnom Penh this morning.
Ms. Mam Somaly said younger victims under 5 years old are more traumatised and terrified when they see the perpetrators in the court room. “They always feel so bad after they return from the court hearing,” she said, suggesting the presence of only their lawyers.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen advised the Ministry of Justice and the National Committee for Counter Trafficking to work on this issue, and called for understanding from the court.
