Battambang Physical Rehabilitation Centre Receives Modern Rehabilitation Equipment

Battambang Physical Rehabilitation Centre (BPRC) has received KOICA-funded modern rehabilitation equipment via “Clearing for Results-Phase 4: Mine Action for Human Development Project”.
The handover ceremony took place in Battambang province on Mar. 1 in the presence of H.E. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), Ms. Ji Yea Kyung, Deputy Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office, Ms. Alissar CHAKER, UNDP’s Resident Representative in Cambodia, Mr. Ryan Tierney, First Secretary and Consul, Australian Embassy, and Mr. Sim Sothun, Director, Persons with Disabilities Foundation (PWDF).
The support of modern rehabilitation equipment to the BPRC will effectively and efficiently improve the provision of services to the victims of landmine and ERW and all persons with disabilities in the three provinces of Battambang, Pailin, and Banteay Meanchey by improving the capacity of current physiotherapists, and prosthetists, and orthotics, said a press release of KOICA AKP received last night.
It is also to increase community access to mirror therapy and BPRC’s outreach activities besides strengthening links between the clearing of contaminated land, rehabilitation, village, and community development. Increasing victim assistance is a key to a Mine Free Cambodia 2025, the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, and commitment to leave no one behind, it added.
According to the same source, the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has provided US$10 million for Cambodia’s mine clearance efforts, through the “Clearing for Results-Phase 4: Mine Action for Human Development Project”, from 2021 to 2025. The fund will be used to increase mine clearance activities, boost victim assistance and education on mine risks, CMAA’s capacity building, gender mainstreaming in mine sector, and so on.
KOICA, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Australia, New Zealand, and the donor community have lauded Cambodia’s commitment to achieving its goal of becoming a mine-free nation by 2025.
