Cambodia, Japan PMs Discuss Cooperation

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and his Japanese counterpart H.E. Fumio Kishida have discussed the bilateral cooperation between both countries and exchanged views on regional issues of common interest.
According to H.E. Sry Thamrong, Minister Attached to the Cambodian Prime Minister, in their virtual meeting this morning, the two leaders lauded the growing relationship between Cambodia and Japan, especially during the anti-COVID-19 operations.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Japan for deciding to provide 300,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Cambodia via COVAX Facility, in addition to the 1 million doses already obtained by Cambodia. He also asked Japan to consider assisting Laos as the latter is facing with both the pandemic and economic difficulty.
The Cambodian Premier requested the Japanese side to grant more scholarships to Cambodian students, encourage more investors to Cambodia, boost orders, train Cambodian peacekeepers, and resume direct flights as Cambodia is now open for fully vaccinated tourists without required quarantine.
For his part, H.E. Fumio Kishida reaffirmed Japan’s support and cooperation for the success of Cambodia’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2022.
Both countries will hold different events to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Cambodia-Japan diplomatic relations, the 50th anniversary of Japan-ASEAN Friendship and Cooperation, and the 30th anniversary of the dispatch of Japan’s self-defence forces to Cambodia next year.
On regional issues, Samdech Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Fumio Kishida agreed that the two nations had shared similar opinions and stance. Japan will continue to work closely with Cambodia for a better situation in Myanmar.
