Commerce Minister Asks Sweden to Encourage More Investors and Businessmen to Cambodia

Minister of Commerce H.E. Pan Sorasak has requested Sweden to continue encouraging its key businessmen and investors to seek business opportunities in Cambodia, mainly in the fields of furniture processing and auto assembly and spare part production as well as food processing and tropical fruits.
The request was made by H.E. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, while receiving a farewell visit from H.E. Bjorn Haggmark, Swedish Ambassador to Cambodia, at the ministry office yesterday.
The minister also asked the outgoing Swedish diplomat to inform the Government of Sweden and European Union about the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia in sustainable and equity development in the economic, social affairs and environmental sectors.
He also informed his guest about Cambodia’s stance to adhere to multilateralism framework in dealing with issues in all sectors in accordance with international standards and with consideration for developing and least developed countries.
H.E. Pan Sorasak deeply thanked the Government of Sweden for its cooperation with Cambodia in the areas of trade, education, civil servants’ capacity building, and public-private partnership support.
For his part, H.E. Bjorn Haggmark noted Cambodia’s economic growth and integration by adhering to multilateralism system, as well as the progress in the establishment of regulations to serve private sector and foreign investment in Cambodia.
The outgoing diplomat also highlighted the significance of participation in inclusive, transparent, and environment-friendly economic development through renewable energy use.
The Embassy of Sweden will continue cooperating with the ministry to enhance Cambodia-Sweden dialogue and trade relations, H.E. Bjorn Haggmark underlined.
The two-way trade between both nations reached US$64 million in 2020 and US$23 million in the first five months of 2021.
