Cambodia rebounded to No. 2 in the latest edition of Nikkei’s COVID-19 Recovery Index (as of Mar. 31).
According to the index, Cambodia got a total score of 80.5, just behind the United Arab Emirates which received 85.5 score.
Rwanda, the Dominican Republic, Taiwan, Nepal, Mongolia, Qatar, El Salvador and Uruguay are in the top ten.
Vietnam was ranked 92, while Thailand 113 and Laos 121. Other ASEAN Countries – Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Myanmar came in 56th, 73th, 79th, 84th, and 97th, respectively.
The index assesses countries and regions on infection management, vaccine rollouts and social mobility. The higher the ranking, the closer a place is to recovery, characterised by fewer infections, better inoculation rates and less strict social distancing measures.
As of April 9, 2022, 92.78 percent of the total population of 16 million in Cambodia have been inoculated against the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to the strong herd immunity, the Kingdom has fully reopened since November 2021 while continuing to adhere to the health safety rules. For more than a week, not more than 35 new cases were detected a day.
