CRF, TIKA Reach MoU to Improve Cambodian Rice Farmers’ Livelihoods

The Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) have reached a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), which will improve the livelihoods of rice farmers.
The signing ceremony took place here at CRF late last week between its President Okhna Chan Sokheang and Mr. Burak SARITARLA, Project Manager of TIKA in Southeast Asia including Cambodia, under the witness of H.E. Ms. Ülkü KOCAEFE, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Cambodia.
According to CRF, the objective of the MoU is to improve the livelihoods of rice farmers through the donation of 20 rice transplantation machines and nursery trays to 5 agricultural cooperatives in Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Prey Veng, and Takeo provinces.
TIKA has been implementing projects in Cambodia in the fields of education, housing, and capacity building.
This is the first project of TIKA in Cambodia in the agricultural sector and the agency is ready to consider future support to cooperatives in the Kingdom. The transplanting machines will help the cooperatives to improve their cultivation techniques and increase the capacity of paddy seeds production.
During the signing ceremony, CRF President Okhna Chan Sokheang and H.E. Ambassador Ülkü KOCAEFE discussed the rice trade between Cambodia and Türkiye which showed rapid growth in the first 11 months of 2022 by 3,000 tonnes.
Both parties agreed to work further to develop cooperation in the field of rice trade and cultivation.
