The General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) has collected US$2.02 billion as custom income in the first nine months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 19 percent.
The figures were released by H.E. Kun Nhim, GDCE Director General at a press conference held here on Oct. 5.
“The figure is good, achieving 78.61 percent of the target set for the entire year of 2022,” he said during the press conference.
He said the surge in the customs and excise revenue came after the Kingdom has resumed all socio-economic activities and reopened its borders since November 2021 thanks to high vaccination coverage against the COVID-19 in the country.
Cambodia has two institutions responsible for collecting taxes. One is the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), which collects taxes on goods entering and leaving the country, and the other is the General Department of Taxation (GDT), which focuses on interior taxes such as income tax, salary tax, value added tax, and property tax.
Meanwhile, the GDT generated US$2.68 billion in tax income in the same period, up 27 percent year-on-year.
