Harmful Level of UV Radiation Alerted in Cambodia

Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) has warned the public of dangerous level of ultraviolet (UV) radiation forecast to reach level 10, an alert level of UV Index.
In an announcement issued on Tuesday, the ministry said that the high level of UV radiation is from Aug. 18 to 24, stressing that this will cause harmful effects to the health of people, animals, and plants.
The UV radiation is predicted to reach its peak between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, pointed out the source.
MOWRAM has been following closely this natural phenomena, said the announcement, calling on the public to increase their vigilance.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the ultraviolet index or UV Index (UVI) is an international standard measurement of the level of UV radiation at a particular place and time.
The values of the index range from zero upward – the higher the UVI, the greater the potential for damage to the skin and eye, and the less time it takes for harm to occur.
