Negeri Sembilan Royal Institution Marks 250 Years with Traditional Ceremony

Kuala Pilah – The ‘Ulangan Penghulu-Penghulu Luak Tanah Mengandung Mengadap Menjunjung Duli’ ceremony, a significant event reflecting the 250-year-old traditions of the Negeri Sembilan royal institution, was held at Istana Besar Seri Menanti.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, the ceremony, first held in 1898 during the reign of Tuanku Muhammad Tuanku Antah, is now conducted every three years. The event is a testament to the state’s monarchy, founded in 1773 by Raja Mahmud Almarhum Sultan Abdul Jalil, also known as Raja Melewar.

Tuanku Muhriz highlighted ongoing historical research to uncover more information about the royal institution’s past. This research, delving into various historical documents and writings from Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, aims to clarify and correct historical facts about the royal lineage. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Tunku Ampuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud, and Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz, as well as Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and state leadership.

In line with the ceremony, Tuanku Muhriz launched a special logo commemorating the 250th anniversary of the royal institution. He also discussed the Customary Tenure (Lenkongan Land) Enactment 2022, emphasizing its role in facilitating the development of customary land, and encouraged the expansion of agricultural entrepreneurs’ initiatives and solar farm projects to enhance local income and food production.

The ceremony itself, a vibrant display of tradition, began with a procession of Penghulu and their subordinates, followed by an eleven-gun salute and the oath of allegiance to the Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, underscoring the deep-rooted cultural and historical significance of the event.
