Two Cuban Coaches Sign Contract with VFC

The Volleyball Federation of Cambodia (VFC) has entered a contract with two Cuban coaches to train Cambodian national athletes for the SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia.
The signing ceremony took place here in Phnom Penh recently with the participation of the VFC’s officials, coaches and H.E. Ms. Liurka Rodríguez Barrios, Ambassador of Cuba to Cambodia.
The coaches are Mr. Karell Pena Ventoza specialised in beach volleyball and Mr. Berto Friol Barrios in indoor volleyball, and the technical experts include Mr. Leonid Abum Castillo and Ms. Natyelis Riol Cardenas.
After the trial period, we can figure out that the coaches can bring in the quality that we want and fit with our target,” said Aing Sereypiseth, the VFC’s Secretary General.
“We want to win gold medals at the 32nd South East Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia next year. Everything is down to the real competition, and it won’t be easy as we say,” he underlined. “With the addition of these two coaches, I believe that we will have high hope to achieve what we aim for at the Games.”
The contract of the Cuban coaching duo will last one year (until three months after SEA Games 2023) and there is a possibility of contract extension, depending on the performance and progress of the national teams.
Cambodia is set to have a friendly match with a team from Cuba in October to test the players’ tactical capacity and whole performance.
They will also face Singapore as a part of their SEA Games preparation.
