General Atomics Expands International Collaborations and Partnerships With Japan in Critical and Emerging Technologies

SAN DIEGO, CA / ACCESSWIRE / February 19, 2024 / General Atomics, a defense and diversified technologies company with affiliates operating on five continents, is expanding its collaborations and partnerships across Japan with new investments in the nuclear energy and rare earth elements sectors.

Numerous teaming arrangements are in the late stages of discussion and are set to be announced in early 2024. These partnerships will complement the company’s existing relationships as a long-term partner collaborating with Japanese industry and government agencies.

Currently, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) are testing and deploying the MQ-9B SeaGuardian® Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) built by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. Cambodia Approves 22 Investment Projects Worth US$444 Million in the First 15 Days of February


The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has endorsed 22 investment projects worth US$444 million in the areas of industry, physical infrastructure, and agriculture and agroindustry in Phnom Penh capital city and nine provinces for the first 15 days of February.

According to a news release of CDC issued today, the newly approved investment projects in Phnom Penh cover the establishment of data centres in Khan Russey Keo and Khan Daun Penh; a bag, car tyre, book cover and pad factory in Khan Kambol; and a garment, medical clothing and pet clothing factory in Khan Pursenchey.

In Svay Rieng province, there will be factories of home appliances from recycled metals in Svay Chrum district, and furniture, house appliances, packaging materials, decorative light bulb, wire and cardboard boxes in Giga Resource Special Economic Zone.

While cardboard box, Christmas tree and decorative light bulb factory in Kong Pisei district, and bag and accessories factory in Samrong Tong district of Kampong Speu province,
there will be coconut processing, doll and pet supply factories in Prey Nup district, and sofa and furniture factory in Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone of Preah Sihanouk province.

Besides, when fruit tree farm and processing factory, and pig farm and processing factory will be established in Borey O’ Svay Senchey of Stung Treng province, there will be garment factories in Bati district and Samrong district of Takeo province.

A garment factory project in Takhmao city of Kandal province; an iron mining project in O’ Rovieng district of Preah Vihear province; a multi-purpose port and logistics centre project in Kampong Leng of Kampong Chhnang province; and a garment, glove, sock, hat and bag factory project in Jiangsu Special Economic Zone in Kampong Cham province have also been approved during the first two weeks of this month.

Cambodia Collects US$5.9 Billion as Tax Income in 2023


The Ministry of Economy and Finance has collected US$5.9 billion in revenues from all kinds of taxes last year, a 3.9 percent decrease from US$6.14 billion in 2022, an official report showed.

The country has two institutions responsible for collecting taxes. One is the General Department of Taxation (GDT), which focuses on interior taxes such as income tax, salary tax, value added tax, and property tax, and the other is the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), which collects taxes on goods entering and leaving the country.

In 2023, the GDT earned US$3.61 billion, up 4.5 percent from US$3.45 billion a year before, read the report.

On the other hand, the GDCE collected US$2.28 billion in 2023, a decline of 15.7 percent from US$2.67 billion in 2022, the source pointed out.

H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, lauded the tax officials’ effort in collecting taxes.

‘The revenues were achieved in a situation where the surrounding environment was faci
ng challenges, including the slow recovery of the superpowers’ economy, the continued prolongation of wars, geopolitical tensions, that have disrupted the transport sector and the supply chain, as well as demand for consumption,’ he said at the GDCE’s annual meeting organised here last Friday.

Digital Government Forum 2024 to be Held for Three Days in March


Digital Government Forum 2024 will be held for three-day, on Mar. 11-13, in Phnom Penh under the theme “Sustainable and Inclusive Development through Digital Policies Implementation.”

The forum will be presided over by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, H.E. Sok Puthivuth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Digital Government Forum 2024 and the Digital Government and Digital Technology Exhibition, said at a press conference held here last Friday.

The upcoming forum will promote cooperation among government agencies, share excellence in the digital revolution, identify challenges in implementing digital solutions, boost people-centered services, and promote policies, digital infrastructure, cyber security and data privacy in the public sector, he pointed out.

‘The forum is aimed to explore emerging technologies, encourage innovation and facilitate communication between stakeholders to promote th

The important digital government forum is also aimed to highlight the achievements of building a digital government in line with the Cambodia Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework 2021-2035 and the Cambodia Digital Government Policy 2022-2035, he added.

The inaugural Cambodia-International Digital Government and Digital Technology Exhibition to be held along with the forum will highlight achievements in the digital government transformation, development of digital platforms and services alongside their positive impacts, and digital public service provision through digital platforms and services created by various ministries and institutions.

APSARA National Authority Installs Two More Wooden Handrails at Angkor Wat Temple


The APSARA National Authority (ANA) has been installing two more wooden handrails at the Angkor Wat Temple in Siem Reap province to ease the tourists’ visit.

According to the authority’s recent news release, the working team of Tourism Services Control of the ANA’s Department of Tourism Development and Culture has continued their busy work to install another two wooden handrails at the southern and northern staircases going up to Bakan Tower of Angkor Wat.

The head of the working team, Mr. Bou Phaneth, said that the wooden handrails installation work is aimed to facilitate tourists going to Bakan Tower, particularly to prevent slipping in the rainy season, provide safety for all tourists, and prevent other dangers such as dizziness, heart palpitations, and so on because this location is steep and has a height of more than ten metres.

Mr. Bou Phaneth added that the ANA continues to repair the damaged wooden stairs and install handrails at various risk locations to prevent accidents by taking into account t
he safety of tourists as well as to reduce direct contact with the stone.
