Germany to Promote Education and Health Cooperation with Cambodia


Germany is intended to boost the cooperation with Cambodia in the areas of education, human resource training, and health.

The intention was raised by visiting H.E. Ms. Martina Stamm-Fibich, Chairwoman of the Petitions Committee of the German Bundestag, while paying a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, at the Peace Palace here on the afternoon of Feb. 28.

H.E. Ms. Martina Stamm-Fibich said the purpose of her visit to Cambodia is to further strengthen and expand the relations and cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of education and human resource training, and health, as they are important in serving the needs of the people and providing mutual benefits to both countries.

Currently, she added, Germany is also facing a shortage of human resources in the health sector and skilled workers.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet thanked the German government and people for their contribution to the development of Cambodia, focusing p
articularly on education, human resource development and democracy.

The Prime Minister welcomed the above-said German side’s intention, emphasising that the policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia of the 7th Legislature of the National Assembly is focused on boosting the economic growth based on human resources.

At the same time, he added, the Royal Government is committed to strengthening the health sector and human resource training, and providing vocational skills to the people. He also encouraged both countries’ relevant institutions to continue to discuss and cooperate in developing mechanisms and plans to promote cooperation in the said fields.

Cambodia and Germany celebrate this year the 57th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties.

Liechtenstein Foreign Minister to Pay Official Visit to Cambodia


Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sports of Liechtenstein, H.E. Ms. Dominique Hasler, will pay an official visit to Cambodia from Feb. 29 to Mar. 2, 2024, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

This visit will be made at the invitation of H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

During the visit, the press release pointed out, H.E. Ms. Dominique Hasler will meet the Deputy Prime Minister to discuss various fields of cooperation as well as regional and international issues of common interest and concern. They will also sign the Framework Agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein on Development Cooperation.

To promote cooperation in the fields of education and vocational training, the source added, H.E. Ms. Dominique Hasler will have separate talks with H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister
and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, and H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training. She will also visit projects supported by the Liechtenstein Development Service in Cambodia.

‘The visit marks a significant milestone in the amicable relations between the two nations and aims to enhance cooperation for the benefit of both peoples,’ stressed the press release.

Large American Companies to Expand Investment in Cambodia


Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this morning a group of U.S. businessmen led by Mr. Brian David McFeeters, Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director of U.S.-ASEAN Business Council.

In the meeting, large U.S. companies have expressed their interest and desire to expand their investment in Cambodia, and sought more understanding on the Royal Government’s investment-related policy.

The U.S.-ASEAN Business Council represents 17 major companies with business operations in the fields of modern technology, social media, tourism, finance, energy, retail markets and manufacturing, energy, and insurance, Mr. Brian David McFeeters told Samdech Thipadei.

Those are Abbott, ADM, Chevron, ConocoPhilips, Estée Lauder Companies, FedEx Express, Ford, Jhpiego, Manulife, Mastercard, Meta, Pfizer, Philip Morris International, RMA Group, Roche, Tilleke and Gibbins, and Visa.

In response, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister hig
hly valued the U.S. investment in Cambodia as well as the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council’s interest to expand investment in the Kingdom.

The Premier spoke highly of the key role of the private sector, which does not only contribute to the socio-economic development, but also plays an active role in promoting the diplomacy of public-private partnerships.

Besides, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet briefed the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council on the launch of the Royal Government’s Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1 and the Investment Support Policy Framework through creation of favourable investment environment with the guarantee of peace, political stability and social order, and especially with the policy of providing incentives for investors and the launch of new business model initiatives such as new model of special economic zones.

The Prime Minister also encouraged the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council to continue to work with Cambodian ministries and institutions and all stakeholders to develop a plan for practical action to pro
mote the relations as well as investment in Cambodia.

Cambodian PM Receives CEO of Jones Group International


Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet received here at the Peace Palace this morning visiting CEO of Jones Group International (JGI) Mr. Jim Jones.

In the meeting, Mr. Jim Jones told Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister of his visit, the purpose of which is to meet with partners and stakeholders to build better connection between the private sector of the two countries.

The JGI CEO expressed high hopes and optimism to promote and turn the relations between both countries’ private sector into practical and fruitful activities.

At the same time, Mr. Jim Jones reaffirmed his commitment to further promote and enhance the Cambodia-U.S. private sector relationship.

In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his warm welcome to the CEO and his colleagues, and praised the good Cambodia-U.S. relations in the framework of cooperation between the two governments and their private sector.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also highlighted the Royal Government’s policy to support the private sec
tor’s investment in Cambodia by building confidence of investors through a more favourable investment environment while ensuring peace, political stability, social order, and especially with the policy of providing incentives for investors and the introduction of new business model initiatives, such as new models of special economic zones by industry type.

The Cambodian Premier also stated that the Royal Government of Cambodia is always open to the participation of the private sector, which plays an important role in socio-economic development, and acts as a diplomat of cooperation.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister also encouraged Mr. Jim Jones to continue to cooperate with the ministries and institutions and stakeholders in Cambodia to put in place and prepare a plan to be implemented as a practical action to improve relations as well as the investment in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

MPWT Collects US$16 Million from Special Vehicle Plate Sales


The Ministry of Public Works and Transport issued a total of 26,659 special and personalised vehicle plates last year, earning some US$16 million.

Started in 2016, the special vehicle plate registration is priced higher than the normal ones, and the owners can keep the plate when selling their vehicles.

‘In 2023, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport registered a total of 652,163 vehicles, including 604 electric vehicles (EVs),’ H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport said in the ministry’s annual meeting held here on Feb. 28.

From 1990 to December 2023, a total of 7,563,395 vehicles were registered, including 1,335 EVs, he said, stressing that the ministry has put into use 18 electric vehicle charging stations nationwide.

The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) is committed to reducing pollution through the use of fuel-efficient vehicles and the switch to EVs – at least to 40 percent of the total cars and 70 percent of motorcycles by 2050.

The RGC has developed a strategic policy to
turn Cambodia into a regional and global production hub for automotive and electronic components, draw in more investment in the field, and boost exports.
