The Royal Government in a directive tonight announced to set Feb. 27, 2024 as the official mourning day for late His Holiness Buddhist Supreme Patriarch General Tep Vong, Buddhist Supreme Patriarch of Dhamma Mahanikaya of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

All flags at public and private institutions as well as pagodas must be flown at half-mast, said the directive, underlining that all entertaining programmes on both public and private TV and radio stations are also ordered to be postponed that day.

At the same time, the Royal Government formed a commission for the organisation of venerable Tep Vong’s funeral. The commission is composed of more than 40 members with His Holiness Samdech Preah Moha Sometheathipadei Kittioutespundit Nun Nget, Acting Buddhist Supreme Patriarch General, as Honorary Chairman and H.E. Vongsey Vissoth, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, as Chairman.

Venerable Tep Vong passed away in Phnom Penh this evening, at around 17:40, at the age of 93 years old due to natural causes.

According to an
official announcement, the body of Venerable Tep Vong is kept at Ounalom pagoda located in Sangkat Chey Chumneas, Khan Daun Penh, Phnom Penh for religious rituals until the cremation ceremony.

The schedule of cremation ceremony will be announced later, the same source said.

Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has expressed his deepest condolences over the passing away of His Holiness Buddhist Supreme Patriarch General Tep Vong, Buddhist Supreme Patriarch of Dhamma Mahanikaya of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

In the condolence message released on his social media this evening, the Premier lauded the sacrifice, both physical and intellectual, of venerable Tep Vong in the cause of Buddhism, society, culture, civilisation, literature, especially for the cause of prosperity in the field of Buddhism.

The passing of venerable Tep Vong is the loss of a rarest resource in Buddhism as he has left many achievements in contribution to the future social development, Samdech Thipadei added.

At the same time, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King and President of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party, also extended his sadness over the loss of venerable Tep Vong.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen recalled the key contribut
ion of venerable Tep Vong to the revival of Buddhism after the fall of the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime on Jan. 7, 1979, as well as his sacrifice for the Nation, Religion and King.

The two leaders prayed for the soul of venerable Tep Vong to rest in peace.

Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will pay an official visit to Malaysia on Feb. 27, 2024, at the invitation of H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia.

According to a press release of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international Cooperation issued this evening, during the visit, Samdech Thipadei will be granted a Royal Audience by His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong XVII Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, King of Malaysia, at the Istana Negara. Samdech Thipadei will also have meetings with H.E. YB Senator Datuk Mutang Tagal, President of the Senate, and the Honourable Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives, at the Parliament building.

Samdech Thipadei HUN Manet and H.E. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will hold a bilateral meeting to discuss diverse dimensions of cooperation, including political-security, trade and investment, tourism, labour, halal food industry, ICT and digital technology, and
energy security, aligning with the reciprocal Interest of both nations. Subsequently, the two Prime Ministers will also preside over a signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between National Bank of Cambodia and Bank Negara Malaysia on Cooperation in the Area of Financial Innovation and Payment Systems.

Besides, Samdech Thipadei will attend the Cambodia-Malaysia Business Forum, where he will deliver a keynote address and witness the signing of two MoUs covering trade cooperation between the Chambers of Commerce of the two countries.

The upcoming official visit of Samdech Thipadei to Malaysia will contribute to further deepening the long-standing ties between Cambodia and Malaysia in bilateral and multilateral frameworks for the best interests of the two countries and the region.

Samdech Thipadei will be accompanied by H.E. Deputy Prime Minister SUN Chanthol, First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea, Minister of Foreign Aff
airs and International Cooperation, along with senior ministers, ministers, key government officials, and business leaders from the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce.
